Being involved in a serious car accident is almost always a stressful experience, but then having to deal with your car or truck repair and ICBC on top of that only makes it worse.
There are several steps you should take if you’ve been in an automobile accident in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam or Port Moody. If you’re unsure, give us a call and we’ll be happy to walk you through the entire process from start to finish.
Step 1: What to Do At the Accident Scene
First off, if you and another driver are involved in an automobile accident, you need to ensure that no one is seriously injured. Next, you want to check for damage to your vehicle. Use your cellphone to take picture of your car or truck and the other vehicle. You’ll also want to take down the license plate and the drive licence number of the other drive for reference later – even if you don’t think you’ll need it.
Step 2: Should I Report the Accident to ICBC?
After your automobile accident, you should phone ICBC or file a report online. It is best to do so within seven days, or as soon as possible. Even if you don’t think it’s necessary, it’s best to talk to them in case you or another party later develop injuries such as neck or back pain.
A claims adjuster will be assigned to your case to determine who is at fault and to help guide you through the process. Remember, its still your call if you want to make a claim or not.
Step 3: How Does the Repair Process Work?
The next step is to determine which auto body repair shop to take your vehicle to get it fixed. Often times ICBC will recommend one of their preferred shops. Tom’s Custom Auto Body is an ICBC accredited auto body repair shop and we put customer satisfaction above all else so you’re assured the best experience with the least hassle.
